The reflection of the Ambleteuse fort on the water

The fort is usually but wrongly called "Fort Mahon"
The fort is usually but wrongly called "Fort Mahon".
Built by Vauban togather with 6 other forts, it is the only one in 1682 left.

It consists in a casemated in a casemated tower with a remarkable circular wall pierced by a wide ventilation chimney. A few years later, it was surrourded by a low crenellated wall with a battery.

Though too well protected to be attacked by men, it was seriously domaged by storms on three occasions.

The progress made in artillery caused it to be taken out of service in 1887.
