The sculpture above the Gate called "Porte des Dunes"

Paul Graff's sculpture represents the Virgin sitting (rather perilously given her size !) in a boat, with Jesus as an infant on her knees and between two angels.

That is a reminder of the old legend according to which a boat with a statue of the Virgin had sailed into the harbour in the early Middle Ages.
