Its 58-metre high lantern towers above the harbour. If you are brave enough to climb its 271 steps and reach the parapet at the base of the lantern, you have a wonderful view of the whole city (the largest in Pas-de-Calais), the 2 Capes with the hills of the Boulogne area in the distance, and, weather permitting, the cliffs of Kent.
The lighthouse built in 1848 was miraculously spared during the Second World War, and its special characteristic, together with that of Dunkirk, is to have been erected inside the city, though close to the docks.
