François de Guise, who liberated Calais from English rule in 1558.
A knight wearing a golden armour can be seen above each clock dial.
He is François de Guise (1519-1563), who took back Calais from the English after a six-day-siege.
A bust representing him can be seen on a square in nearby Guînes,
a small town which was also part of the Pole
(area west, south and east of Calais occupied by the English
Cf the Dublin Pale in Ireland).
